In my at-home personal training business, located in the Delray Beach and Boca Raton area in Florida, I get called on many clients who have pain issues and cannot partake in a fitness program. These clients either are on the pain medications or get local injections for pain relief. Many of them are depressed. They are caught in a cycle of taking drugs and injections. The sad part of the situation is that they are continuously going to take the medications. There is no light at the end of the tunnel. Of course, the doctors want to keep them taking the medications because it’s their business and income. They are not thinking about the best interests of their patient. I would like to think that they would outsource their patient to a physical therapist or a knowledgeable personal fitness trainer that specializes in making people pain-free, but these trainers are hard to find, and there are only a few. I know this because I’m one of them.

A recent example of a patient who became pain-free and very quickly was one of my patients in Pompano Beach, Florida. She was having tremendous issues with her mid back and hips. She has had very bad plantar fasciitis in one of her feet. She has had neck problems and also wrist issues. She was going to see a pain doctor two to three times a week for her pain patches and injections. She has been doing this for over a year with no relief.

I met her in a diner, and she told me of her issues. Without even examining her or doing an evaluation, I could sense that she just needed very light and passive movement. I know that this would be just enough to make her muscles move again and free up all the adhesions, tension and muscle imbalances she had acquired over the years. After I assessed her, I set her up on a very mild program with lots of physical rehabilitation and very careful movement. She completed her workout pain-free. That evening, she still was pain-free for quite a while. The next morning, she was about 70% better just from one exercise session.

As we continued our fitness program two times a week, she became about 95% pain-free and very motivated to continue to exercise. When she went to a doctor for a shot, she did not want to take it, but he was so persuasive giving it to her. This is where the business takes over and neglects the best interest of the patient. I had a talk with her, and she was open to continuing exercising because of the tremendous results she had been experiencing. I did not mention anything about the pain medications and the injections. I believe that in a couple more weeks, it’ll be inevitable for her to see that she does not need the injections and pain patches.

I wish more people would understand the benefits of a quality fitness trainer and the results they can give adults who are in pain and want to get out of it. That they can continue active, fun and in joyful living.
