FIVE COMPONENTS OF PHYSICAL FITNESS

A COMPLETE WAY TO WORK OUT

As people enter their middle and later years, it often gets harder to combat the effects of aging muscles, hormonal and other physical changes in the body, and more sedentary lifestyles. For people who want to regain their vitality and get their bodies back to the
fitness levels of their youth—or better—Michael Metchikian’s Five Way Fitness At-Home program is the way to go.

Unlike typical gym programs that focus on standardized muscle group workouts with one or two kinds of fitness equipment, Michael’s holistic Five Way Fitness goes beyond the usual with an emphasis on 360° fitness for body and mind. His full-spectrum exercise experience works all parts of the body, incorporates different types of workouts, and uses a broad variety of exercise equipment.

Every exercise or weight loss program is customized for each individual client to maximize results safely and effectively, and each routine varies as your strength, flexibility, and fitness improve. Each personal training session tackles two to three of the following aspects of Michael Metchikian’s Five Way Fitness:

#1) CARDIOVASCULAR FITNESS

Also known as cardio-respiratory fitness, cardiovascular fitness addresses the ability of the heart, lungs, and vascular system to deliver oxygen-rich blood to working muscles during sustained physical
activity.

Benefits: As we age, our heart muscle needs to be trained properly to maintain its purpose and optimal condition. By exercising properly, you improve your circulation, lung capacity, and heart health so you can live a more active and productive life.

Muscle strength is the amount of force a muscle or muscle group can exert against heavy resistance.

Benefits: Through aging, we lose about 10% of muscle mass per decade. Therefore, retaining muscle strength is a necessity, as muscle strength is required for us to perform our daily activities.

#3) MUSCLE ENDURANCE

Muscle endurance is the ability of a muscle or muscle group to repeat a movement many times or to hold a particular position for an extended period of time. Endurance activities burn calories to help us maintain a healthy body weight.

Benefits: Improved muscle endurance and greater muscle stamina allow
us to perform multiple tasks every day.

#4) FLEXIBILITY AND BALANCE

Flexibility is the degree to which an individual muscle will lengthen. Balance is the ability of the kinetic chain (the body) to stabilize a joint during a dynamic process.

Benefits: Flexibility enables us to reach objects at a distance better, and good balance allows us to move or stand in a challenging position and reduces the chance of falls. Both of these give us tremendous freedom in our daily lives.

#5) BODY COMPOSITION

Body composition is the amount of fat in the body compared to the amount of lean mass (muscle, bones, etc).

Benefits: Sound nutrition and proper exercise are the cornerstones to a healthy body and mind. Eating properly and maintaining a healthy body weight ensures that we are repairing and rebuilding ourselves on a daily basis and can stay active longer.

Through his personalized exercise programs, Michael helps his clients enjoy tremendous fitness success and alleviate pain as they build strength and muscle tone, as well as begin to look and feel better (and years younger!).

Mike’s Five Way Fitness programs start clients at the appropriate pace and difficulty for where they are in their current level of fitness and overall health—no matter their age, physical history, or prior exercise experience. With proper motivation, encouragement, and an eye on getting great results, Mike pushes clients to be their very best. Before they know it, they are:

  • Lifting, pulling, or pushing more weight
  • Feeling an increase in physical endurance
  • Firming up muscles that were once flabby
  • Tightening areas that were once sagging
  • Looking and feeling better
  • Living a more active, pain-free life

Of course, the key to getting the most from your workout is form and technique; without these, you won’t achieve your desired results and could actually injure yourself.

Although the Five Way Fitness personal training program is rigorous, Mike’s careful attention to body mechanics ensures that clients are exercising correctly and safely.
